Volunteer With Tapestry

Mentoring
Many of our residents are making great strides in making a new start. They are reaching out to the resources that are going to help them get connected to education, transportation, and employment. Your supportive relationship is a key element to their success.

One of our primary needs is for people to help wit the woman that is Tapestry Residents. Mentoring can happen as individuals or in groups. We are asking volunteers to commit to being involved for six-month periods and to connect with our residents or our group via telephone or visit for 1 hour per week. We offer training and ongoing support and through this the women and children that we are serving receive a tremendous benefit from your mentorship and accountability. We are excited to see how your optimism and faith will foster growth in our families living at Tapestry.

Tutoring
We are requesting volunteers to work one on one with our grade school students. We have two opportunities in which we hope to engage you.

One is through an after-school program in which we provide after school reading enhancement and homework help along with positive activities and various sports activities. We plan to launch this program in fall of 2010 and would love for your volunteer help. The program will consist of 2 hours a week.

Summer Program
We offer a 6 week summer program that hosts and provides are children with recreational, educational, and character building activities. We also plan to provide lunch for them daily. The program will begin June 4 2012 and will end July 27 2012 the program will take place at tapestry resource center and will be an opportunity for the kids to participate in skill building classes, reading enhancements, recreational activities, art therapy, garden therapy, and field days. Volunteers will be needed to assist onsite staff and interns all throughout the summer program weeks.

Community Gatherings:

Throughout the year we provide and offer monthly neighborhood and community out reaches. We gather the community through a shared meal and provide on-ramps for them to get information about our available resources, housing programs, and any community development opportunities currently available to them. Our events are listed regularly and we look for volunteers to help prepare the meals, distribute fliers, play games with the neighborhood kids, and connect with the community. Each Gathering is held on one Saturday a month from 11-2pm.
